Concerned about H1N1 (swine) flu vaccination for yourself or your child? What you should know

This brochure, provided by Seattle and King County, contains information about the H1N1 (swine) flu vaccine.  It explains that the vaccine is developed in the same way as the seasonal flu and that the preservative (thimerosal) used in the vaccine is safe.

Considering Complexity: Culture, Language, Trust, and Preparedness


This presentation outlines individual and organizational-level challenges relating to culture, language, and trust that contribute to racial/ethnic disparities in disaster and public health emergency outcomes. It also discusses recommendations from the National Consensus Panel on Emergency Preparedness and Cultural Diversity. The presentation was presented at the New York Citizen Corps Disaster Volunteer Conference in May of 2011.

Deaths Related to 2009 Pandemic Influenza A (H1N1) Among American Indian/Alaska Natives

This MMWR article descrives the disproportionate number of H1N1 related deaths among American Indian/Alaska Natives. According to an investigation which spanned 12 states, the rate of H1N1 related deaths in AI/AN was 4.0 times higher than death rates for all other racial/ethnic populations.
