Description:

This report presents the findings from a statewide assessment of emergency preparedness programs and initiatives for racially and ethnically diverse communities in California. A  multi-faceted research approach, including a review of literature and web-based resources, key informant interviews, and local expert panel sessions, was used to chart: the current status of programs; persisting individual and organizational barriers and challenges to meeting the needs of diverse populations; promising practices particularly for engaging communities, building trust, fostering collaboration, and informing the development of culturally competent services; and program, policy and funding recommendations for future work.  The report provides maps of current efforts by geographic region and a matrix of programs and initiatives in the state. While this report focuses on the state of California, it provides a methodological framework that allows for similar assessments to be conducted at national, state, and local levels.
