This qualitative study examines the extent to which government and nonprofit agencies engaged African American clergy and churches as key resources in responding to the urgent needs of people of color in Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath. The paper also outlines a comprehensive set of remedies, to ensure African American ministers and churches are key participants in any and all disaster preparedness planning, recovery and reconstruction efforts in the future.
