| Description: | This presentation defines cultural competence and discusses how culture both helps people cope with disaster but also leads to the unequal treatment and distribution of resources for various cultural groups following an emergency or disaster. It also discusses the issue of mistrust among all victims and particularly minority groups, many of whom feel they have been subjected to discriminatory treatment during prior emergency or other situations. The presentation also provides strategies for developing culturally competent disaster plans. |
